    Background-check recency checker

Many IDNs want a check within 12–36 months. Criminal, OIG/SAM, and sex-offender searches are often separate.

    Background-check recency for vendor reps

Hospitals commonly ask vendor reps for a background check completed within a set look-back window before a badge is issued or renewed. This background-check recency checker shows how many months have passed since the last check and whether it falls within the window you set. Browse the free tools hub for related checks.

How to use this background-check recency checker

Enter the date the check was completed and the allowed age in months from your facility’s policy. The checker shows the months since completion and whether the check is within the window. Then pair it with the vendor-file audit sample size calculator for spot audits, the NPI check digit validator, and the credential expiry calculator.

    Check background-check age

    33.1 mo

    Within window.

    How to read the result

Within window means the check is no older than the allowed age you entered. Older than policy means it should be rerun before the badge is issued or renewed. The result covers recency only, not what the check found.

    FAQ

How recent does a vendor rep’s background check need to be?
Each facility sets its own look-back window in its vendor policy. Enter that window in months and the checker flags any check that is older.
What is the OIG exclusion list?
The HHS Office of Inspector General maintains the List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE), which can be searched online or downloaded. Excluded individuals and entities can receive no payment from Federal health care programs for items or services they furnish, order, or prescribe.
Why screen vendors against the OIG exclusion list?
OIG states that anyone who hires an individual or entity on the LEIE may be subject to civil monetary penalties, and advises health care entities to check the list routinely. Your vendor policy decides how often screening is repeated; SAM.gov also lists federal exclusions.
Is exclusion screening the same as a background check?
No. Exclusion screening searches lists such as the OIG LEIE and SAM.gov exclusions. A criminal background check is a separate search, and some facilities require others. This tool tracks recency only — it does not run any search.
    Is this checker legal advice?
No. It is an educational recency check for vendor credentialing and compliance staff. Your facility’s vendor policy and legal counsel decide which checks are required and how often.

Educational only. Not a credentialing determination, not legal advice, and not a substitute for each facility’s policy. Background-check recency checker does not submit files to hospitals or GHX/Vendormate/Symplr.
